Rodolfo Zuniga Quintet

Rodolfo Zuniga Quintet - The Rodolfo Zuniga Quintet is a contemporary jazz group that came together in Miami, Florida in January 2004. While the quintet is under the leaders name, all its members contribute with equal saying in arrangements and composition. Apart from being active in the south Florida jazz scene, this group has toured Florida and performed in Costa Rica and Ecuador.

Rodolfo Zuniga was born in San Jose, Costa Rica. At the age of 19 was awarded a full scholarship to attend Florida International University in Miami, Florida and enrolled as a jazz performance major. Currently he is active in the local Florida scene and also leads his own quintet with which he has traveled to central and south America to perform clinics and concerts.
Most recently, he has been chosen to participate in the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead residency program.
Originally from San Jose, Costa Rica. Attended the National University of Costa Rica for 2 years of classical guitar. After this moved to Boston to enroll at the Berklee College Music on a double major, Music Synthesis and Jazz composition. While living in Boston was a participant of the International Guitar Festival, recipient of the Bob Moog Award, and participant of the Promising Artists of the 20th Century program run by the Cultural Center between Costa Rica and United States. After graduating from Berklee moved to Miami Florida where he is enrolled in the masters program at Florida International University where he received a full scholarship.

Robert Smiley was born in Florida and began playing the saxophone at age eleven. Performing in ensembles at Florida International University as well as with his own funk and jazz groups, Smiley has backed up musicians such as Michael Brecker, Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D'Rivera, Pee Wee Ellis, Andy Martin, Ingrid Jensen and Ira Sullivan. He has studied privately and in master classes with artists like Gary Campbell, Chip McNeil, Carlos Averhoff and Eugene Rousseau.

Lasim Richards was born in St. Thomas, USVI. He began playing trombone at the age of nine. In 1998 he moved to Boston, Massachusetts to attend Berklee College of Music. While attending Berklee, Lasim played in many of the top ensembles and worked as a freelance trombonist. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in music business management in the spring of 2002. He has played with groups such as Soulive, Yerba Buena, the Drifters and the Coasters. Lasim is currently in his final semester as a graduate student at Florida International University, in Miami, Florida.

Mike Bordelon was born in New Orleans,La and raised in Miami,Fl, As a Jazz performance major he attended Miami-Dade College, the University of Miami, and Florida International University. He currently studies with Arturo Sandoval's bassist, Dennis Marks, and in the past has studied with Chuck Bergeron and Don Coffman. He intends to continue his university studies with hopes of teaching at the university level as well as performing the art he loves; jazz.
